The Nicaragua Solidarity Coalition, with a growing membership across the Americas, Europe, and beyond, is pleased to sign on to the “Letter Calling on States to Support South Africa’s Genocide Convention Case Against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ),” and invites other organizations to do so here. The Nica Coalition firmly supports this effort to stop the US-Israeli genocide against the people of Gaza, as the international community has been demanding for over three months.
We are not surprised that the Government of National Unity and Reconciliation of Nicaragua, which practices a people-centered approach to human rights, was one of the first to call out the genocide underway in Gaza, and one of the first national governments to express support for the South African Application to the Court under the Genocide Convention. We are pleased to see that the Nicaraguan government has also expressed its full support for the efforts of international civil society to help countries file a Declaration of Intervention with the ICJ, and that it will do so itself at the earliest opportunity within the Court’s proceedings. Zionism is an inherently supremacist, racist, violent, and extremist ideology. The international community must hold Israel to account for its many war crimes and crimes against humanity committed over the past 75 years in Palestine, Nicaragua, the Americas, and the Global South. We also vow to hold to account those States that aid and abet the Israeli genocide, particularly the United States of America.
We reiterate our full solidarity with the Palestinian people and celebrate the longstanding friendship between the peoples of Nicaragua and Palestine, and our various countries. It is our hope that this moment of great sorrow will lead to significant change, so that our brothers and sisters in Palestine can ultimately enjoy the dignity and human rights that they deserve in a land where people of all faiths and ethnicities live side by side as equals and in peace.
Long Live Palestine! Long Live the Solidarity of Our Peoples!
